Elizabeth (Liz) O’Mara Sage PhD, MPH, MS

Liz O’Mara Sage serves as Senior Epidemiologist and Lead Evaluation Scientist in CDC’s Global Health Center.  In this role, Liz leads multidisciplinary initiatives to promote evaluation standards and practice in CDC’s global scientific and programmatic activities.  She also advises on response strategies based on the global humanitarian system, and approaches to ensure that health equity principles are at the forefront of CDC’s global health work.  Liz joined CDC in 2000 and has held both domestic and international positions focusing on program development and scientific direction for many of CDC’s infectious threat programs, emergency preparedness and response and global maternal and child health programs.

Prior to joining CDC, Liz focused on pediatric medical initiatives and maternal and child health programs throughout Sub-Saharan Africa developing partnerships, programs, and research opportunities for government Ministries, UN agencies, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations. She also served and led emergency relief teams from 1995-2000 in response to complex humanitarian emergencies in West and Central African nations, mostly during wartime crisis, conducting disease surveillance and maternal and pediatric emergency medical care.

 

Liz has a passion for mentoring and teaching.  She is involved in academic instruction and research dedicated to behavioral epidemiological sciences focused on global health and gender equity issues.  She is a certified scuba instructor and yoga teacher with a love for introducing the stillness and supportive aspects of yoga to teenage youth.
